Even though Wes Craven recently said David Arquette and Courteney Cox’s return to the Scream franchise was pretty much a done deal, it’s always nice to get confirmation. And today that’s exactly what we got, straight from the mouth of Deputy Dwight “Dewey” Riley himself.

Arquette spoke with E! Online and explained the appeal of doing another installment of the film, “I fell in love with my wife on Scream, so the opportunity to bring [Dewey] back to life and for my wife to play that really bitchy character again, it’s just going to be really fun. It’s just great.

Even though all reports are that Neve Campbell won’t be back, Arquette says, “I hope Neve does it. I really hope so.” As for a new storyline, “Kevin Williamson is writing the script at this moment, and hopefully Wes Craven is going to direct.” When pressed for details, Arquette laughed, “Kevin has sort of put out the broad strokes, but I don’t think I’m at liberty to share any of that.

UPDATE

David spoke this morning about returning to the franchise with Cox to the N.Y. Post:

“I love the ‘Scream’ franchise, I’m just honestly excited to be making another one,” Arquette exclaimed. “I figured it would be a blast to bring these characters back to life and see how they’ve grown since ‘Scream 3,'” he told the NY Post. “Working with Wes has been amazing and Kevin is an incredible artist. My wife and I really wanted to do this.”
