First British 3D Horror Film Announced
London-based production house Size 9 Productions has announced that its next project will be a 3D horror film entitled Elfie Hopkins and The Gammons starring Jaime Winstone, whose genre cred includes the stellar E4 TV series “Dead Set” (review).
According to Screen Daily, Welsh director Ryan Andrews will helm the project, which is being produced in association with UK distribution partner Vertigo Films. It will be set and shot in Wales and will starting shooting this winter.
Winstone, daughter of actor Ray Winstone [one of Size 9’s founding partners], will play teenage misfit and “wannabe detective” Elfie Hopkins, whose investigations are limited to annoying small-minded residents of the rural village where she lives, until the charismatic but suspicious Gammons family arrive. Andrews described the film as a “quirky horror and an eclectic mix of comic book characters, British pop culture, and fantasy setting in an unusual and twisted world.”
Size 9’s Steve Matthews states, “It’s incredibly exciting to be working at the forefront of the new 3D technology which doesn’t have to be the preserve of the big budget movies. 3D is perfect for Ryan’s dark fairy tale vision.”
Sounds promising, and if nothing else, Elfie Hopkins and The Gammons should be a good indication of how well today’s 3D technology trickles down to the smaller scale indie scene.
