Oculus Filmmaker Mike Flanagan Set to Direct Ouija 2
Mike Flanagan made an impressive debut on the scene with 2011’s Absentia, and he was scooped up by Hollywood for last year’s Oculus. Up next, Flanagan will re-team with Blumhouse Productions for a sequel to Ouija, and we’ve conjured up all the spooky details for you today.
Per THR, Mike Flanagan will both co-write and direct Ouija 2, a sequel that was inevitable whether anyone wanted it or not. Despite the lackluster reviews, Ouija had a strong performance at the box office last year, and that’s what is most important. Jeff Howard will co-write the script.
In front of the camera, Annalise Basso (below) has nabbed one of the female lead roles. Basso, who appeared in Oculus, will star as a young girl grieving the death of her father.
Universal, Blumhouse, Platinum Dunes, and Hasbro’s Ouija 2, set for release on October 21, 2016, will again revolve around the ancient spirit board that was at the center of the first film.
Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form are producing for Platinum Dunes while Jason Blum will produce for Blumhouse Productions and Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis from Hasbro. Intrepid Pictures’ Trevor Macy, Flanagan’s frequent collaborator, will also join the film in a producer capacity. Universal’s director of development Sara Scott will oversee for the studio.
