Today is Showtime’s turn to present to the Television Critics Association, and of course first on everyone’s list was an update on “Twin Peaks.”  Well, we got that and more so read on for the details.

Showtime Networks president David Nevins announced that the follow-up series from David Lynch and Mark Frost is slated to start production in September, according to Deadline, with Lynch set to direct all episodes. Apparently he and Frost wrote one long script that will be shot continuously as a movie and later cut into episodes. Originally envisioned as being nine (9) episodes, the series will likely run longer, but the exact number is still in flux and won’t be known until after filming is completed, Nevins said.

Beyond the return of Kyle MacLachlan, Nevins declined to comment on casting other than saying we “should be optimistic that the people you want to be there will be there, in addition to some surprises.”

After rumors that we won’t see the show until 2017, there is now hope that “Twin Peaks” could be ready for 2016.  But Lynch has complete creative control over the project so Nevins added, “I’ll take it when it’s ready; I hope that’s sooner rather than later.”

Amen.
