The X-Files Updates: A Returning Character & Mulder/Scully’s Status
Two tidbits of info about Fox’s upcoming “The X-Files” reboot have come out this week… one involves a returning character, and the other details the status of Scully and Mulder’s (Sculder? Mully?) relationship. If you choose to avoid spoilers, then you best be moving on.
For the rest of you, EW confirmed that per a clip that was shown to the Television Critics Association, “David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson’s iconic investigative characters were no longer together—and having a major blow-out fight. In the clip Scully describes herself as ‘your friend and physician’ to Mulder.” A source “close to Fox” verified to the site “that, indeed, the two are no longer together.”
If you’re more interested in Mulder’s conspiracy theories than his love life, in the clip he “was trying to convince Scully that a certain un-referenced conspiracy had nothing to do with aliens, but was rather a conspiracy of men.”
In some happier news for Dana, her mom is coming back! Per TVLine, Sheila Larken (pictured below) will return as Margaret Scully in the Glen Morgan-penned second episode, “Home Again,” airing Monday, January 25. Her character was last seen 13 years ago in Episode 9.09, “Provenance,” and according to IMDb, the actress hasn’t appeared in anything else since.
“The X-Files” debuts on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at 10:00PM immediately after the network’s broadcast of the NFL championship game and begins a five-week run Mondays at 8:00PM.
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are back as Mulder and Scully, as are Mitch Pileggi as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner, William B. Davis as the iconic Cigarette-Smoking Man, and the Lone Gunmen (Dean Haglund, Tom Braidwood, and Bruce Harwood). Guest stars include Robbie Amell, Lauren Ambrose, Kumail Nanjiani, Rhys Darby, Joel McHale, and Annet Mahendru.
Veteran writers James Wong and Glen Morgan also return with Morgan joining creator Chris Carter as an executive producer. Shooting continues at North Shore Studios in N. Vancouver through August 14th.
