Rest in Peace: Roddy Piper
Words kind of escape us right now. It’s with an unbelievably heavy heart that we report wrestling legend “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has passed on.
The news comes via TMZ Sports, who report that Piper – born Roderick George Toombs – died from cardiac arrest in his sleep at his home in Hollywood on Thursday night. He was discovered on Friday, July 31st. He was just 61.
Outside of the wrestling ring Piper starred in such legendary cult flicks as Hell Comes to Frogtown, John Carpenter’s They Live, and dozens of others.
Speaking personally, Piper was a hero of mine and truly one of those once in a lifetime talents. I’m happy I had a chance to share some time with him a few years back, and I will always cherish every second.
At this time we would like to extend our sincerest of condolences to Piper’s friends, family members, and constituents. This loss really hits hard. Godspeed, brother. Heaven just got a whole lot more interesting. Your memory will live on in the hearts and minds of fans everywhere.
