LaurenParkinsonTake one part bombshell, add in a little backwoods lunacy and the desire for human flesh, and VOILA! While not exactly the woman you’d want to bring home to mom, Lauren Parkinson’s character of Daisy in the cannibalistic thriller Appetites sure is fun to watch partake in such gruesome dining habits, and she was sweet enough to sit down with us here at Dread Central to discuss her character and the film – read on!

DC: Can you give us a brief description of the film and your character, Daisy?

LP: The film was originally going to be set up as somewhat of a love story between two crazy people who think that they’re normal, and that’s basically how my character is – she has this upbringing that’s sort of created a monster, and she just wants to live, love, and take care of business!

DC: Does she know she’s nuts? Or is she just going with the flow?

LP: You know, she watches a lot of TV, and she has her movie moments, and it’s kind of how she perceives reality. Like anyone else, when you’re out in the real world, you have these assumptions of how you’re supposed to be, and then you have this reality, and everyone has to deal with the hands that they’re given…so does she know she’s crazy?? Sure.

DC: Take us back to the beginning – how did you get your start in the business?

LP: Back in the day, I guess I’d been dabbling for about 18 years, and of course it started in high school and drama classes – I loved Shakespeare, and when I was little I must have watched the Franco Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet about 500 times, and always dreamed of being Olivia Hussey, and I got to play that part in high school. After that, I was off to college, got a scholarship – then after I graduated it was theater, theater, theater, and then I started doing film, and it felt cooler (laughs). So then I started pushing that a little harder, and I had my regular jobs – and 2 years ago I quit my day job and forcefully dug my way into it. I love working with all these talented people – I’ve been working a lot for these past two years, but I leapt without a parachute, and it’s been fun.

DC: What can you tell us about the shoot? It looked pretty intense.

LP: Oh yeah! It was about a 15-day shoot, and we’d go from the crack of dawn until after dark, work on the parts for the next day, and then party it up. It was just 24 hours of work, with about an hour of sleep – work, work, work, and it was amazingly fun. Everyone was just exploding with ideas, and it was blossoming as we went along. From the night before we started, going in and picking out our costumes, to the first couple of days where you’re not sure exactly what’s going on, but you’ve just got to let it go – kind of like improv, but it was crazy and fun. There were days when I had 15 costume changes, and it was like Girl Scout style – no bathrooms around!

DC: After the release of this film, what’s coming up next for you?

LP: I did Avengers Grimm, which just came out, and CobraGator is coming out next month, and I just shot a TV film which is going to air in a couple of weeks called In the Cut, and it’s got Jackee Harry and Dorien Wilson. It’s a fun film, and I love doing really big characters – it’s going to be awesome.
