Beyond Kombat Shows The Lighter Side Of Gruesome Dismemberment
You know your annoying friend that thinks he’s clever when he makes those lame, “oof, I’d hate to be HIS chiropractor!” joke every time someone gets their spine snapped in a movie/video game? It’s hard to one up such pure comic genius, but it turns out actually seeing what that would all look like is actually pretty funny. Don’t believe me? Just check it out:
It’s rare for a game to push an ad campaign months after release, even with major DLC content. The last of the Kombat Pack was released on Tuesday, but the people at NetherRealm aren’t content to just wash their hands and move on to the next big thing. Over the course of this last week, they released a series of comedic shorts showing the behind the scenes of the Mortal Kombat universe. Titled “Beyond Kombat,” the glory you just witnessed showcased “The Doctor” that patches everyone up. Ever wonder how someone could come back after having their rib cage torn out and lodged into their face? The answer is heavy tools and creative thinking.
Starring the lovely and hilarious Kristina Klebe (Halloween (2007)), “The Doctor” is my favorite of the three. They all clearly focus on Predator in a way that betrays their nature as promotional material, but it shouldn’t get in the way of your enjoyment. You can check out the series on the Mortal Kombat YouTube page. I’m hoping the series continues in the future, ideally coinciding with the release of new DLC packs. Tune in next week for my take on Tremor and retrospective of the first batch of Mortal Kombat X content!
