betsypalmerA true horror icon has passed on so prepare for some sad news… word has come that Betsy Palmer, aka Pamela Voorhees from the original Friday the 13th (1980), has died from natural causes at the age of 88.

Per HuffPost, she passed away on Friday at a hospice care center in Connecticut, according to her longtime manager, Brad Lemack.

Ms. Palmer revisited the genre a few other times as well in 2005’s Penny Dreadful (no relation to the TV show) and then in 2007’s Bell Witch: The Movie.

Her mainstream success came from numerous TV appearances like “Kraft Theatre,” ”Playhouse 90,”  and “Studio One” in television’s early years and “Knot’s Landing,” ”The Love Boat,” and “Newhart” in its heyday; her movie credits include Mr. Roberts with Henry Fonda, The Long Gray Line with Tyrone Power and Maureen O’Hara, and Queen Bee with Joan Crawford.

Palmer is survived by her daughter, Melissa Merendino.  We here at Dread Central send our condolences to Betsy’s friends and families.  It was an honor to have met her… thanks for the memories!
