Fans of Japanese horror will soon have an opportunity to delve into the country’s rich and fascinating folklore. The developers at Carnivore Studio are crafting a video game entitled Kodoku, which allows players to explore an island filled to overflowing with spirits from the world of Japanese folklore. Unfortunately, we don’t have a release date to share as of this writing, but the creators recently dropped a work-in-progress video on YouTube. It’s pretty nifty.

Although the game was originally scheduled to arrive for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita earlier this year, the developers are apparently still hard at work on the title. For the moment, all we have is this WIP to keep us busy until the game is ready for mass consumption.

The folks at Crunchyroll described the game like this:

Kodoku puts players in the role of a collector who travels to the island of Kodoku, which is haunted by spirits from Japanese folklore. While in search of a rare book, you’ll have to contend with the paranormal, discover their source, and eventually find a way off the island.

If you’re in the market for a J-horror-flavored video game featuring an old-school aesthetic, then keep your eyes glued to the official Carnivore Studio website for updates about Kodoku. In the meantime, check out the WIP video and the game’s official teaser below.
