‘Follow Her’ Director Sylvia Caminer and Co-Writer/Star Dani Barker On Tackling The Horrors Of The Digital World
It’s not news that the internet is a terrifying place where just one click can send you down a spiral of conspiracy theory videos and threads upon threads of men spewing misogynistic and homophobic acid behind cartoon frog profile pictures. Director Sylvia Caminer and co-writer Dani Barker know that all too well, and channel that in their new film Follow Her.
Read the full synopsis:
Jess (Dani Barker) has finally found her hook: secretly filming creepy interactions she encounters via online job listings, and using the kinks of others to fuel her streaming success. For her next episode, she’s been hired by Tom (Luke Cook) to write the ending of a screenplay in a remote, lavish cabin. Once there, the alluring self-proclaimed screenwriter hands her a script in which the two of them are the main characters. This client isn’t what he seems, and even though the money’s great… the real payment here could cost her life. Follow Her is a psycho-sexual thriller that questions the ethical boundaries of social media.
Dread Central spoke with Caminer and Barker about how they collaborated on this tale of a complicated influencer, how Barker’s real-life experience inspired the script, and more.
