Andrew Traucki, ‘The Reef’ Director, Talks Working with Sharks [Video]

Director Andrew Traucki is known for his creature features starring real-life predators like sharks, crocodiles, and jungle cats. From his first film Black Water full of killer crocs to his horrific shark film The Reef, Traucki knows how to tap into the fear of survival and the anxiety of making quick life-or-death decisions. Now he’s back to shark-filled waters with his latest film, The Reef: Stalked.
In the film, in an effort to heal after witnessing her sister’s horrific murder, Nic travels to a tropical resort with her friends for a kayaking and diving adventure. Only hours into their expedition, the women are stalked and then attacked by a great white shark. To survive they will need to band together and Nic will have to overcome her post-traumatic stress, face her fears and slay the monster.
In his review for Dread Central, Tyler Doupé declared The Reef: Stalked “the best killer shark movie of the last five years.”
We spoke with Traucki about his survival horror movie career, working with predators, and more.
