The latest Dread Presents title, Queen of Spades, focuses on an age-old Russian legend that works as a sort of sister tale to the Bloody Mary myth. This movie and others like it continue to inspire kids everywhere to turn off their bathroom lights and whisper into the mirror. This harmless prank has been a rite of passage of sorts. But what if it actually worked?
Director Patrick White explores the idea of an ancient curse reawakened by a group of teenagers led by star Ava Preston. In the back-to-back interviews below, I spoke with Patrick and Ava about their experience on the film and whether or not they would return for a future sequel. We also had a little fun talking about how Robert Englund almost appeared in Queen of Spades and Ava’s fond memories of being a part of the Critters franchise!
Synopsis: According to legend, an ominous entity known as the Queen of Spades can be summoned by performing an ancient ritual. Those brave enough draw a door and a staircase on a mirror, in darkness, and say her name three times. What happens next must be experienced to be believed. Four teenagers decide to summon the Queen of Spades as a joke. But they could never imagine the horrors this innocent prank has condemned them and their loved ones to. The evil entity won’t stop until she gets their souls.
