‘Behind the Mask II’ Kickstarter Surpasses $250,000!

'Behind the Mask II: The Return of Leslie Vernon' Officially Announced!

Dread Central was excited to learn last month that a sequel to the cult favorite meta-slasher Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is officially announced.

The follow-up has been in the works for a long time, but Behind the Mask II: The Return of Leslie Vernon is now really happening.

We’ve reported that the next film is set to reunite writer/director Scott Glosserman and co-writer David J. Stieve with original stars Nathan Baesel, Angela Goethals, and Robert Englund, as Leslie Vernon, Taylor Gentry, and Doc Halloran, respectively.

As part of that process, the filmmakers launched a Kickstarter campaign that invites fans to participate directly in the making of Behind the Mask II.

The film is already moving forward no matter what, but the campaign opens the doors for the community that kept Leslie Vernon alive for 20 years to join the journey early — helping shape how big and ambitious the sequel can be while building the audience as the movie itself is being made.

Still, the campaign is absolutely crushing. With 17 days still left to go, the campaign has crossed the $250,000 threshhold, which is nothing short of bananas!

If anything, this signals just how beloved Behind the Mask is and how badly fans want to see the sequel finally realized on the big screen. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

Here’s the OG film’s synopsis: “Nathan Baesel stars as Vernon, a good-natured killing machine who invites a documentary film crew to follow him as he reminisces with his murder mentor (Scott WilsonThe Walking Dead), evades his psychiatrist/nemesis (Robert EnglundA Nightmare On Elm Street), deconstructs Freudian symbolism, and meticulously plots his upcoming slaughter spree. But when the actual carnage begins, where do you draw the line between voyeuristic thrills, mythic evil, and good old-fashioned slasher movie mayhem? Angela Goethals (24) and Zelda Rubinstein (Poltergeist) co-star.”
