First Look: Mike Flanagan's 'Carrie' Finally Revealed

The wait is over.

Entertainment Weekly has debuted the very first official images from Mike Flanagan‘s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King‘s Carrie, giving horror fans their first look at the filmmaker’s bold new take on one of the genre’s most beloved coming-of-age horror stories.

The first-look images arrive just as we finally have a better idea of when the eight-episode Prime Video series will debut.

Earlier this year, co-star Katee Sackhoff revealed at Fan Expo Vancouver that Amazon is targeting an October 2026 premiere, teasing, “You guys are in for a treat. It’s very good. It’s very good.”

Based on Stephen King‘s landmark 1974 debut novel, Flanagan’s “bold and timely reimagining” stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, a lonely high school outcast who has spent her life isolated under the thumb of her domineering mother. After the sudden death of her father, Carrie is thrust into public high school, where relentless bullying, a community-shaking scandal, and the emergence of terrifying telekinetic abilities change her life forever.

Speaking with the mag, Flanagan made it clear that he wasn’t interested in simply remaking Brian De Palma‘s 1976 classic.

“The movie exists, and it’s a masterpiece,” Flanagan says, explaining that the series gave him the opportunity to revisit King’s novel from a different angle rather than recreate a film that already got it right.

Summer H. Howell also described her Carrie as someone who’s much more open to the world than previous incarnations, explaining that she’s curious, wants friends, and genuinely wants to experience life before everything begins to unravel.

Meanwhile, Samantha Sloyan teased a more nuanced take on Margaret White than audiences may be expecting.

“Our Margaret White is a woman who fiercely loves her daughter and wants to protect her from this world,” Sloyan explained, adding that Margaret believes isolating Carrie isn’t punishment, but the only way she knows how to keep her safe.

The cast also includes Samantha Sloyan (The Fall of the House of Usher), Siena Agudong (Resident Evil), Alison Thornton (School Spirits), Thalia Dudek (The Irrational), Josie Totah (Saved by the Bell), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), Joel Oulette (Trickster), Amber Midthunder (Prey), and Matthew Lillard (Scream).

Recurring guest stars include Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli, Crystal Balint, Danielle Klaudt, Heather Graham, Tim Bagley, Tahmoh Penikett, Mapuana Makia, Naika Toussaint, Delainey Hayles, Cassandra Naud, and Rowan Danielle.

Flanagan serves as writer, showrunner, and director on select episodes, with Amazon MGM Studios producing.

We’ll have much more on Carrie as we get closer to its expected October premiere.
