New Look at ‘Resident Evil’ Sees Austin Abrams Silenced by the Undead

Zach Cregger‘s take on Capcom’s mega-popular survival horror video game series, Resident Evil, is inching closer. So close, I can practically scream. Empire dropped a new look at the film, and, unfortunately for star Austin Abrams, it looks like he’s being denied that opportunity.

In the image below, we see who I’m assuming is Abrams with what looks to be an undead passenger sitting next to him, bloody hand covering his mouth.

Personally, I’m guessing the woman is perhaps a visage of Abrams’ girlfriend/wife, whom he’s trying to reach on the phone in the trailer. I also love just how utterly terrified Abrams appears. The actor is ridiculously talented at expressing all-out panic, and I’m ready for him to translate that to Resident Evil.

Either way, it’s an intriguing tease at the horror to come. And everything we’re seeing from Cregger’s Resident Evil hints at what may end up being the scariest yet of the film adaptations (not that that’s a high bar).

In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival, as one fateful, horrifying night collapses into chaos around him.

Look for Resident Evil in theaters on September 18, 2026, via Sony Pictures.
