Tribeca Preview: New Look at Sound-Driven Horror Thriller ‘Recluse’

undertone producer Steven Schneider, whose genre credits also include Hokum and Paranormal Activity, has found his next sound-driven horror for audiophiles to obsess over.
Schneider recently boarded Recluse as executive producer through his indie label Spooky Pictures, Variety reported ahead of this week’s huge premiere of Henry Chaisson’s debut feature at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The film centers on Joan, a sound recordist living in isolation, who returns to her father’s estate in the wake of a devastating fire. Tracing a series of ghostly audio fragments, she uncovers a buried family secret – and someone intent on keeping it that way.
Sasha Frolova (The Empty Man) leads the cast alongside Xander Berkeley (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Walking Dead) and Toby Poser (Hellbender), with Mia Vallet, Kimball Farley and Frankie Seratch in supporting roles.
“Recluse is pure nightmare fuel – blending chilling storytelling, striking visuals and haunting sound design to deliver a totally immersive horror experience. With this fearless and loud debut, Henry is emerging as the next great horror auteur – and as the film begins its festival journey, it’s a thrill to be along for the ride,” Schneider said.
Chaisson wrote and directed the film and produced alongside Josh Lobo, Gillian Cooper, Katharina Windemuth, Alex Dandino and Rowan Russell. Andrew Merrill, Beth Crudele and Jayda Park co-produced. Cailla O’Shea and Frolova served as additional executive producers. Recluse is a co-production between Points North Films and Restricted Pictures, which are currently in post on the genre project Night After Night.
We have a handful of new stills from the film, which is one of the most anticipated films at the Tribeca Film Festival.
