One of the most shockingly irreverent and underrated genre flicks of 2020 was the darkly-comedic body horror The Special, directed by B. Harrison Smith from a screenplay penned by James Newman and Mark Steensland. If you missed it, give the trailer and synopsis a spin below.
Synopsis:
Suspecting his wife of infidelity, Jerry’s best friend offers him a supernatural encounter in the back room of a brothel. But everything has a price, and Jerry’s night of pleasure sets off a dark chain of events as he spirals into obsession.
The Special stars Davy Raphaely, Dave Sheridan, and Sarah French.
The Special is anything but your typical love story, making it something of a perfect anti-Valentine’s Day movie. Smith agrees, saying, “It’s about heartache, loss, love–and lust and you never forget your first time! It all starts with cheating and by the end, people get hurt, some people get dead, and maybe the asshole finally gets theirs!”
