Horror fans, how many times have you been sitting in a theater watching yet another slasher flick and thought to yourself, “Wow, I totally could have come up with something better than that!”? Well, here’s your chance to be part of horror movie history.

Hot on the heels of completing Beverly Lane, writer/director Joshua Hull is already gearing up for his next feature, entitled Idiot Gore, and wants horror fans to have their hand in creating the killer. Hull describes Idiot Gore as a slasher comedy that is like Tropic Thunder meets Halloween.

The film follows a failing reality show host and his rag-tag crew, who get more than they bargained for when they agree to help a young “Laurie Strode” like character being pursued by a masked psychopath. Jim O’Rear, Shawn C. Phillips, Jim Dougherty, Raymond Kester, Noah East, Morgan Shepard, Ronald Short and Pat Hardy are all attached to star in the film. Writer/director Hull is still casting his “Laurie Strode,” the only female lead in Idiot Gore, and Tennessee-based Wicked Icing FX is attached to bring all of the bloody gore to life.

Hull is looking for character concept submissions for the next great slasher to join the ranks of Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees. Not only will the winner get to see his or her design larger than life on the big screen, but the character will be made into an action figure for the designer to keep, and there will also be tons of signed memorabilia for the winner as well.

The contest is running from November 12th through December 31st, 2010, and Hull is looking for artwork with a brief “killer bio” sent to arsonistpix@gmail.com. Also include your name, address, telephone number, and age for consideration. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

In January, 2011, Dread Central readers will have an opportunity to vote for the top three submissions, and from there Hull and his crew will bring the killer to life on the big screen when production starts on Idiot Gore next spring.

“I think the best part of filmmaking is involving fans and people who generally don’t have the chance to be a part of it. Something I’ve always said I would do is involve people in the process. Horror in general has the best fans and the most creative fans. We are passionate people, and I want to give people the chance to show that passion regardless how small of a film we are making. This is a chance for aspiring concept artists, regular artists, horror fans and everyone else to see their character on the big screen.”

Whatcha waiting for? Get busy, horror fiends!
