She’s Alive! ‘Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives’ Announced by Skybound and Image Comics

She’s alive! Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, have announced Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives, a new four-issue comic book series starring, who else, the Bride!
“Born in the heart of a thunderstorm, made of stolen flesh, electricity, and monstrous desperation—The Bride lives! With no memory of her past or understanding of what she is, The Bride takes her first steps into this strange new world. With danger seemingly lurking around every corner, she must solve the mystery of where and who she came from…and discover what makes life worth living.”
The series hails from Eisner Award-winning writer Kelly Thompson (Absolute Wonder Woman, Black Widow).
Thompson’s longtime collaborator and Eisner Award-nominated artist, Mattia De Iulis (Absolute Wonder Woman, The Cull), will do the artwork.
Said Thompson, “The original Bride of Frankenstein is a brilliant film exploring the creature’s failed attempts to find friendship and community, and then the desperate act to force others to create that which he cannot find. What it’s not about, however, is how The Bride herself feels about her creation. Through The Bride of Frankenstein Lives, we get the opportunity to explore not only her search for who and what she is, but her search for the women that were destroyed to create her — all brought to striking vivid life via Mattia De Iluis’s incredible visuals.”
Added De Iulis, “When I first read Kelly’s script, I knew right away this was going to be something special. We are finally giving the Bride the center stage; she’s no longer someone’s property, she is a human being fighting for her own story. And for me, it’s an honor to translate that onto the page.”
I bet a whole lot of Bride fans will agree with me when I say, it’s about goddamn time. Obviously, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! rectified the fact that we’ve never really seen the story from the Bride’s point of view before, but we can never have enough Bride-centric stories. She’s a character who deserves to tell her own story her way, and I’m loving that we’re finally seeing creatives deliver that.
Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives will be followed by additional new Universal Monsters limited series pairing the biggest names in comics with pop culture’s most iconic monsters.
Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives #1 arrives just in time for Halloween, landing in comic book shops on October 28, 2026.
Check out Cover A of Issue #1 below, designed by De Iulis. Seeing how angry and determined the Bride looks there, I’m already sensing the electricity pouring from the upcoming comic.
