If you’re a comic book regular, you already know who James Tynion IV is. If you’re new or watching from afar, now is the perfect time to jump into something truly special.

Alongside Absolute Batman’s Scott Snyder, Tynion stands as one of the hottest, if not the hottest writer in the industry right now.

He’s the creator behind two of the biggest series in comics today: the hyper-violent horror hit Something Is Killing the Children, and the Halloween-set seasonal slasher Exquisite Corpses, packed with memorable killers and set to wrap up its first season next month. He’s also known for acclaimed work on the must-read The Department of Truth and The Nice House on the Lake, and is a multi-time Eisner Award winner, one of the highest honors in comics.

Things begin anew for Tynion next week with Odin, a brand new series that blends mythological fantasy with horror and action. They’re selling it as: “Green Room meets Midsommar.” Are you paying attention now?

In Odin, “Adela will do anything for the perfect story. Including going undercover with Neo Nazi punks headed to the frozen forests of Norway under the misbegotten belief that they can summon Odin and achieve their promised white destiny. But what awaits them in the woods is far older and stranger than any of them can comprehend. And no gods are coming to answer their prayers for help.”

Based on James Tynion IV’s track record, expect sharp character work, slow-burning dread, and horror that blends the personal with the uncanny.

Multiple Eisner Award-winning creator James Tynion IV (Exquisite Corpses), no-holds-barred writer Marguerite Bennett (Witchblade), rising star artist Letizia Cadonici (House of Slaughter), and Eisner Award-winning colorist Jordie Bellaire (Redlands) conjure this hallucinogenic horror story that leaves absolutely no taboo unbroken.

Issue #1 features a main cover by Alex Eckman-Lawn, with variants from Letizia Cadonici, Christian Ward, Martin Simmonds, and Jae Lee, alongside additional covers including a blank sketch and special editions.

But if you had to pick one, other than the obvious Cover A, it would be the Third Eye exclusive, which is already sold out, unless you quickly grab a copy signed by Tynion.

Odin #1 will be available at comic book stores on Wednesday, May 6:

  • Cover A by Alex Eckman-Lawn
  • Cover B by Letizia Cadonici 1:10
  • Cover C by Christian Ward 1:25
  • Cover D by Martin Simmonds 1:50
  • Cover E by Jae Lee 1:100
  • Cover F by Blank Sketch $5.99
  • Cover G “Stealth Variant”

Several of James Tynion IV’s most acclaimed works are already making the leap to screen, underscoring his growing influence beyond comics: Something Is Killing the Children is in development as a Netflix series with Mike Flanagan attached, while The Department of Truth has been optioned for television, and The Nice House on the Lake is also being adapted—clear signs that Tynion’s signature blend of psychological horror and high-concept storytelling continues to attract major studios and streaming platforms.
