‘Drag’: Hilarious Thriller Crawls Into Theaters In January!

DRAG

One of my favorite parts of film festivals is discovering hidden gems – or dark horses, if you will – and the SXSW film festival is one of the best showcases for genre cinema. While plenty of titles end up feeling mid or go straight to streaming, there are usually one or two true breakout films.

For me, the big winner at this year’s festival was Drag, a hilarious, thriller-horror hybrid anchored by incredible performances from Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield) and John Stamos. It was my favorite film of the festival and a genuine crowd-pleaser.

In the film: “Two sisters (Caplan, Lucy DeVito) with a contentious relationship decide to rob a rural home in upstate New York. The simple robbery turns into a nightmare when one of them throws out her back and becomes immobilized on the second floor. The night spirals out of control as they embark on a painful journey to make it out before the homeowner returns.”

Drag is a brutally funny and startlingly original piece of body horror that introduces an all-too-relatable villain: back pain,” wrote Josh Kornut in his review.

Briarcliff Entertainment announced today that they have set a January 29, 2027, wide theatrical release for Greg Yagolnitzer and Raviv Ullman’s wildly offbeat thriller comedy, which is currently celebrating 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

More info as it comes in.
