‘Weapons’ Prequel ‘Gladys’ Set for 2028 Release; Zach Cregger Not Directing

Warner Bros. announced tonight at CinemaCon that it will release Gladys, its hotly anticipated prequel to Zach Cregger‘s smash hit horror Weapons, in theaters on September 8, 2028.
It was also revealed that Cregger will not be directing the next film, but he is co-writing with Zach Shields (Krampus, Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters).
Of course, the title is in reference to the Weapons antagonist, Aunt Gladys, played by Amy Madigan, who would bring the horror genre home an Academy Award for her unbelievable performance.
Thankfully, it wasn’t a one-off, and we get to see Madigan slather on some lipstick and break a few twigs in a prequel, where she’ll be the film’s entire focus. Hence, more delicious lines like: “I can make your parents hurt themselves. I can make them hurt each other. I can make them eat each other if I want to.” Dying.
Cregger and Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon are returning to produce.
Weapons grossed over $270 million worldwide. As noted before, Amy Madigan won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
