The Leviathan Gearing Up to Take a Bite Out of Hollywood

Every time we see a news story about a new monster movie coming our way, it tickles us pink! Why? Because the world needs new monster movies, man, and The Leviathan could very well be the next big thing!
Deadline is reporting that X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg has come on board Irish filmmaker Ruairi Robinson’s white hot sci-fi project The Leviathan as producer. Neill Blomkamp (Chappie) will also join the formidable creative team as exec producer. Robinson’s 3-1/2-minute proof of concept video for The Leviathan (see below) has been an online sensation since its debut less than a week ago, notching 1.2 million plays on Vimeo and hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.
Kinberg, who also serves as creative consultant on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, certainly has the sci-fi chops to take Robinson’s project all the way. A slew of big name producers had been lining up to meet with Robinson to pitch for the project but were blown out of the water once Kinberg moved decisively. Kinberg’s first-look deal with Fox also gives Robinson potential studio backing should they decide to move forward. In the event of Fox passing, however, there will likely be no shortage of takers for the high concept story set in the early 22nd century.
In the film, mankind has colonized many worlds in a time when travel faster than the speed of light has been made possible by the harvesting of exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. The catch? Those who take part in the hunt for the matter are mostly involuntary labor.
