Blomkamp’s Alien Film Not Actually Erasing Post-Aliens Sequels

In comments he made earlier this week, it seemed Neill Blomkamp was intent on essentially erasing both Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection from the history books with his own installment of the franchise, which got a lot of panties in a lot of bunches. But it seems we took his comments the wrong way, as he’s just offered up some clarification.

Blomkamp set the record straight in a new interview with AlloCine, indicating that he has no desire to pretend movies that happened didn’t actually happen. So we can all relax and take comfort in his latest remarks about the hotly-anticipated project.

My favorites are the first two movies, so I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal,” said Blomkamp. “I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection. I just want it to be connected to Alien and Aliens.”

Ridley Scott is set to produce the so-called Alien 5, which will take place after the events of Prometheus 2. Sigourney Weaver is likely to reprise her role of Ellen Ripley in the film, and she recently exclaimed her excitement about finishing the character’s story once and for all.

While we wait for more info, you can check out clips from the interviews with both Blomkamp and Weaver below.
