We have some very sad news to share today as beloved actor Leonard Nimoy, best known of course for playing Mr. Spock in the “Star Trek” TV series and films, has died at the age of 83.

Per The New York Times, Nimoy’s wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, confirmed his death, saying the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a condition for which was hospitalized earlier in the week.

Nimoy did dip his toes numerous times in the horror genre, appearing in “The Twilight Zone,” “Night Gallery,” and “The Outer Limits” TV shows as well as the films Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Them! (1954), and The Brain Eaters (1958).

In addition to acting and directing, Nimoy followed other artistic pursuits like poetry, photography, and music.  He was born in Boston on March 26, 1931, and, along with his wife, is survived by his children, Adam and Julie Nimoy; a stepson, Aaron Bay Schuck; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and an older brother, Melvin.

We here at Dread Central send our condolences to Leonard’s family and friends and say thank you to the man himself for so many years of great entertainment.
