Well, this is a bit of a bummer to start out the new year with.  After generating some strong buzz in March of last year, Chris Carter’s new series for Amazon, “The After,” has been canned.

Per Variety, no real reason was given, but Roy Price, a VP of Amazon Studios, said, “We have decided to not move forward with ‘The After.’ We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew, and producers for all their efforts.”

Originally Amazon slated “The X-Files” creator’s new project for eight episodes, but only the pilot was produced.  Carter told reporters during Amazon’s summer 2014 Television Critics Association press tour session that he based the mystery-focused series on Dante’s Inferno.

“The After” would have starred Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Arielle Kebbel, Jamie Kennedy, Sharon Lawrence, Sam Littlefield, Louise Monot, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Adrian Pasdar, Jason Lewis, Brynn Bowie, Madison Bowie, Giovanni Lopes, Fred Cross, Stacey Rand, Greg Collins, Don Harvey, Rolando Boyce, Dove Meir, and J.R. Cruz.

Synopsis:
Eight strangers are thrown together by mysterious forces and must help each other survive in a violent world that defies explanation. The date of March 7th serves as a common thread that ties them together.
