‘Tis the season. Well, ’tisn’t really close to the holiday season yet (unless you judge by retail stores that have conveniently gone from Halloween to Christmas), but this year Los Angeles can look forward to Krampusfest 2014!
Brought together by Krampus Los Angeles, the official Krampusfest 2014 website delivers all the information you need to get the most out of your holiday season. Amongst the festivities that Krampusfest 2014, now in its second year, will be hosting in LA between November 29 and December 13 are a Krampus Ball, Krampus Parade, and traditional Alpine Krampus play.
Although he’s been making a huge push recently, some still haven’t heard of Krampus. For those not in the know, Krampus is a traditional creature from the folklore of Alpine countries who legend says punishes bad children during Christmas. According to the tales, Krampus captures the really naughty bastards in his sack and carries them away to his lair. Doesn’t sound like a great way to spend your Christmas season.
About Los Angeles Krampusfest
Now entering its second year, Krampusfest is a multi-venue yuletide celebration of the Krampus tradition produced by Krampus Los Angeles in and around that city. Traditional dates for Krampus activities are December 5 and 6, but the California celebrations spill generously beyond those dates.
Events include shows of themed art, music, and performance as well as workshops and public romps by the first and largest Krampus troupe in the Western U.S. Their goal is to entertain, educate, and foster an international connection with a growing community dedicated to playfully reshaping the holiday. Krampus Los Angeles has organized casual meetings with Austrian Krampus troupe members and hopes to one day bring European Krampus comrades to the US to participate in costumed events alongside their excitable Californian counterparts.
