Exclusive First Look at Amityville: The AwakeningDread Central readers are everywhere, and they’re sometimes wonderfully sneaky too! Playing ahead of this weekend’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is the teaser trailer for the newly titled Amityville: The Awakening, and we’ve got screen grabs from it!

A DC reader known only as Egon Spengler has busted these first images of the haunting new film. Amityville: The Awakening is the Blumhouse-produced next installment in the franchise that continues to endure all these decades later.

Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as lead character Joan, a single mother who moves her three kids into the Amityville house, which of course has a very dark history. Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, and McKenna Grace are also on board.

Maniac remake director Franck Khalfoun will direct.

Dimension had planned on reigniting the popular horror franchise using a found-footage angle, but that idea has been dropped. Amityville remains scheduled for release on January 2, 2015.

Daniel Farrands and Casey La Scala co-wrote the script and are expected to produce with Jason Blum of hit factory Blumhouse.

Trailer Description
That familiar Dimension Films logo gives way to –

A family (Mom Jennifer Jason Leigh, her gothy redheaded daughter, and Red’s little blonde sister) drive up to their new house –
Revealed to be 142 Ocean Ave. The Amityville Horror house.

Red isn’t happy about having moved, but it’s revealed that it was necessary to better care for her invalid brother (the poor lad – a teenager, it appears – is bedridden, comatose, and hooked up to monitors and a ventilator).

CARD: Inspired by True Events

Nighttime in the new home. Things gets creepy. Shadows move, wind blows, curtains billow (in slow motion, as they must), Bro’s monitor beeps.
Lil Sis wanders about, doing creepy young kid stuff.

Red investigates Bro, leading to a JUMP SCARE with him jumping up –

Red starts awake in bed – was it all a dream?

Doctor Clarence J. Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith, from Robocop) appears, assuring the family that it’s impossible for Bro to have woken up.
More creepiness ensues – doors slams, writing scratched into a wall reads ”Kill Them All

Bro’s fingers twitch when no one is looking.

A young man’s voice intones –

”In 1974, the owner of this house murdered his whole family. He said voices told him to do it.”

Doc Clarence investigates Bro – rolls him over, discovers numerous maggots dug into his back and lining his bedsheets. An impossible amount of flies spill forth from them, attacking Clarence and rushing down his gullet.

Or did they? He snaps to, unharmed, as though the whole thing were a hallucination.

From The Producer of Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister

Red: ”This house is really bad…”

Red hovers over Bro, speaks to him: ”How can I help you?

His monitor reads: KILL ME

Red sobs.

Between Illusion

Lil Sis stumbles across a pale, nude demon with sharp teeth. It hisses at her.

And Reality

Mom grabs a knife, looks frightened.

Lies Real Evil

Flashes of brother pulling himself out of bed like a herky-jerky J-horror villain.

Somebody crashes through one of the Amityville home’s infamous upper windows, taking a long fall down.

Red screams.

Title: Amityville: The Awakening

Final moment – Red walks into the home, is greeted in the dining room by Mom and Lil Sis.

Mom: ”Hi, honey! Come sit down, we were just getting ready to eat.”

A very healthy Bro is revealed, sitting at the head of the table. He looks up at Red, smiles wickedly.

There’s New Information About Universal’s DOOM Reboot

Published

on

Some fresh news about Universal’s Doom reboot has come across our paths that we’re excited to share with you. An anonymous source has told us that Tony Giglio (Timber Falls, Extraction, S.W.A.T. Under Siege) will be directing the film based on a script he wrote. Additionally, we’re being told that Amy Manson (Once Upon A Time, Being Human, The White Princess) has been cast as the film’s lead.

We’ve also heard that Autonomous FX will be doing special effects, makeup, and demon design. The company has worked on such films as Sinister, I Spit On Your Grave, Stan Against Evil, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and more. However, they will not be doing the actor’s makeup, which is being handled by a different department.

Elsewhere, Variety learned that the film is being handled by Universal’s non-theatrical division Universal 1440 Entertainment, which suggests the film is either going straight-to-video or it could go to a streaming platform, such as Netflix.

Doom will begin filming in the near future in Bulgaria.

ATTACK OF THE ADULT BABIES Comes Home on June 11

Published

on

I wasn’t too fond of Attack of the Adult Babies when I saw it at FrightFest last year, but as it’s being released on home video in the UK on June 11 courtesy of distributor Nucleus Films, I’m sure it will manage to find a dedicated fanbase. Especially among those partial to toilet humor.

Attack of the Adult Babies was directed by Dominic Brunt and stars Kurtis Lowe, Andrew Dunn, Charlie Chuck, Kate Coogan, Samantha Daniels, and The Human Centipede 2‘s Laurence R. Harvey. As its name suggests, the film focuses on a murderous group of elderly men in diapers, and yes, it really is as crass as it sounds.

Special features will include a making of featurette and a selection of Brunt’s previous short films, and the first 1000 copies of the Blu-ray will feature a slip case designed by artist Graham Humphreys. So if you happen to be in the mood for a film where a person literally drowns in shit, you can pre-order Attack of the Adult Babies on Amazon.
