Maniac to Begin Rampage at Cannes

Color us insanely curious about the upcoming remake of Maniac. It's going to either turn out incredibly well or pale in comparison to the still spooky William Lustig-directed classic. Either way, the people attending this year's Cannes festival will be the first to find out.

Added as an official selection, Maniac will enjoy a midnight screening at the prestigious event. Directed by Franck Khalfoun and produced by Alexandre Aja and Gregory Lavasseur, Maniac casts Elijah Wood in the role of a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. He finds victims on the Internet and stalks them like prey, all the while suffering from hallucinations that throw him back into the past when he was abused by his own mother. In his twisted mind he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill.

Look for more as it comes.

Ugh...as much as Id like to see Elijah Wood play a badguy, I seriously dont want to see Him as Frank Zito. This remake is an insult. Joe Spinnel did an awesome job playing the role. Plus Tom Savini on FX. No CGI crap will even come close to Savinis FX in the original. I mean cmon, the head explosion scene caused by a shotgun. To this day I still get a chill when I watch that scene.
