Killer Legends Documentary Comes Creeping onto DVD July 1stThis year’s crop of fictional horror films has been pretty disappointing so far, but maybe the documentary Killer Legends, available on DVD nationwide July 1st from Breaking Glass Pictures, can add some chill to our hot summer months.

Killer Legends follows filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Rachel Mills as they investigate four timeless legends that continue to haunt the American public. Directed by Zeman, the documentary examines the urban legends of The Candyman, The Killer Clown, The Baby-Sitter and the Man Upstairs, and The Hookman.

The DVD release (SRP $19.99) will also include seven special features on the legendary quartet.

Joshua and Rachel travel to Houston, Texas, where they explore the tainted candy legend parents fear every Halloween. In Columbia, Missouri, they compare The Baby-Sitter and the Man Upstairs legend to the unsolved murder of Janett Christman – a babysitter found murdered in 1950. In Texarkana, Texas, the filmmakers investigate the real-life case of a killer known as The Phantom and how it inspired “The Hook” urban legend. The pair then head to Chicago to answer the question of how clowns became so evil and spooky to the public.

Zeman previously directed the critically acclaimed horror documentary Cropsey and said of the upcoming release, “I’m excited to be working with Breaking Glass Pictures again. They helped me make Cropsey a creepy cult favorite, and I’m looking forward to repeating the same success with Killer Legends.”

Killer Legends was produced by Gulp Pictures and Storyville Entertainment in association with Gigantic Pictures. It premiered on March 16th on the Chiller Network.

Synopsis:
Many people believe the scariest urban legends are just modern day folklore, campfire tales of axe-wielding boogeymen, haunted mental institutions, and witches in the woods — the storylines of our favorite horror movies, but often beneath the surface of these harrowing myths lies a horrific truth that’s scarier than any fiction.

Through a chilling blend of investigative journalism and what folklorists call Legendtripping, filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Rachel Mills embark on a dark journey as they investigate four of our most terrifying urban legends and the real-life crimes that may have inspired them. Peeling back the layers of storytelling, from interviews with shocked detectives to traumatized victims, our filmmakers discover a truth more horrifying than they had ever imagined. Unraveling the mystery behind a legacy that refuses to die, this is an attempt to understand not just what we all fear, but more importantly… why we continue to believe.

Special Features:
-Hook: Phantom Revealed (1:10)
-Making Connections (3:59)
-A Cautionary Tale (2:53)
-Babysitter: Close Call (1:47)
-Clowns: Sinister Suburbs (1:52)
-Family Affair (5:11)
-Candyman: Finger Pointing (1:33)

Saw-inspired Game Play With Me Sets a Trap on Steam

Published

on

Saw fans have a lot to be happy about right now. In addition to Jigsaw being teased for Dead by Daylight, a new Saw-themed game called Play With Me has launched on Steam, and although it’s not officially connected with the franchise in any way, developer Airem promised that they created a videogame which looks and plays as though it were made by Jigsaw himself. As you can tell from the trailer and screenshots, the production values and overall quality of Play With Me appear to be considerably higher than most other indie horror games released on Steam, and you’ll probably be very happy to see that Airem took the time and effort to create stylized hand drawn environments rather than using purchased assets from the Unity Store.

The killer behind the sinister traps in Play With Me is known as the Illusion, with the player taking control of investigative journalist Robert Hawk as he tries to fight his way through a series of sick and twisted obstacles created by the lunatic. The voice acting in the trailer was a little cheesy, although we see at 1:09 that the player will be tasked with using a kitchen knife to cut open a dead body (presumably to retrieve an item hidden in the cadaver’s stomach), which is not an image you’ll be forgetting anytime soon.

IQ Publishing are offering a 15% discount off Play With Me for those who purchase the game before January 24, so Saw fans might want to mark that deadline in their calendars and purchase it from Steam before the time is up. After all, it can’t be worse than Konami’s awful official Saw videogames.

New God of War Story Trailer Calls to You

Published

on

This morning, Sony unleashed a new trailer for God of War 4, the upcoming continuation of the story of Kratos. Full of rich, vibrant, and epic imagery, the trailer expands on the dynamics we’ll be seeing at play in this game, mainly the struggle of Kratos being a father and choosing how, and when, to reveal his Godliness to his son, Atreus. All of this takes place as they embark on a journey to fulfill the last wishes of Kratos’ late wife, who wished for her ashes to be spread in a distant location.

Directed by Cory Barlog, God of War 4 will be the first entry in the franchise to not feature Terrence C. Carson as the voice of Kratos. Rather, that responsibility has now fallen upon Christopher Judge (Dead Space: Aftermath, Reaper), who also provided the motion capture for the character.

A Playstation 4 exclusive, God of War 4 will be coming to the console on April 20 this year.

Synopsis:
Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.
