Is a New Version of George A. Romero's Martin on Its Way?

Is a New Version of George A. Romero's Martin on Its Way?We always knew it was only a matter of time before Hollywood, which has yet to meet a remake it doesn't like, turned its eyes toward George A. Romero's sole vampire tale, Martin, and apparent that time is now.

According to Bloody Disgusting producer Richard P. Rubinstein is prepping a new version of Martin -- is it a remake? is a sequel? -- about a young man, believing himself to be a vampire, who goes to live with his elderly and hostile cousin in a small Pennsylvania town where he tries to redeem his blood-craving urges.

With Rubinstein involved, we have a bit more hope than usual as he also worked on the original Martin, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Creepshow, and many more high quality films, including Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead redux. If this version of Martin can come close to the mark set by Snyder & Co., then sign us up!

Keep it here for more on Martin as it comes!

This was so much a director's film that without Romero's unique eye the only thing it will end up in common with the original is the name.

Didn't I predict this was going to happen during the last Dinner For Fiends? Why couldn't they have used my idea for the OJ Simpson JUICE ON THE LOOSE slasher instead?

I think Romero may be the first director ever to have nearly his entire filmography remade!

Not if hack Wes Craven has anything to say about it.

If Craven is a hack then so is George Romero.

One has stuck to his guns never quite achieving immense fams and given fans what they want in spite of a split audience, while the other has lacked in creativity for a long time and has basically given up, selling all of his original properties for remakes.

Yeah, Romero is a hack, I'm sure.

Romero can't be touched. Bad remakes and horrible spin off comics won't bring him down. He's still the king.

No one is raping Romero's legacy. Get a grip.

I'm sorry, but isn't Rubinstein right up there with John Russo for guys who are absolutely raping Romero's legacy, looking for any and all chances to make a buck off his name and movies? I know Rubinstein has as much to do with the Dead series, but he's also always come off as just another license-whoring pimp....aka, a typical producer.

Whatever. They're not "raping Romerio's legacy" any more than Romero has been with his last two POS Dead movies.

moderator Not really ... if you look

Not really ... if you look at his credits, the last Romero-related project he was involved with is Snyder's Dawn. He didn't seem to profit at all from the Day remake, NOTLD 3D, or any of those abysmal Taurus features.

I would be more hopeful if Big George himself was involved. Martin is the perfect antidote to all the Twilight shit.
