We bet you had no idea that such a thing existed! Austin's own Museum of the Weird will be opening up a new exhibit that details the ghostly history of the Texas State Capitol, and Dread Central will be there. Not only that, but our own Paranormal Studies Editor and resident spooky guy, Scott A. Johnson, will be signing copies of his new book about the haunted history of Austin.
From the press release:
Just in time for the Halloween season, 6th Street’s “Museum of the Weird” will be opening a brand new permanent exhibit this month titled “Austin’s Haunted History.” The exhibit will cover the local legends around some of the city’s more famous historic buildings and landmarks, such as the Driskill Hotel and the Paramount Theatre, as well as some of the lesser-known but equally spooky paranormal hotspots around town.
The new exhibit will be a permanent addition to the already sufficiently creepy collection in the Museum of the Weird. Since its inception in May, 2007, the museum has grown to include life-sized wax figures of famous monsters such as Frankenstein, Dracula, and others; movie props including a giant animatronic gargoyle; mummies; shrunken heads; two-headed animals; an authentic Fiji Mermaid presented by P.T. Barnum himself; and much more that needs to be seen to be believed.
To help celebrate the new exhibit, on Saturday, October 24th, the Museum of the Weird will be hosting paranormal investigator and author Scott Johnson, who will be signing his new book, "Haunted Austin, Texas", in Lucky Lizard Curios & Gifts (the gift shop of the Museum) between 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm.
As always, it is free to enter the gift shop. Admission to the Museum of the Weird is still only $1 for kids, $3 for adults, and free with the purchase of a t-shirt or poster.
AND, AS A SPECIAL BONUS THIS SATURDAY ONLY, ANYONE WHO PURCHASES A COPY OF SCOTT’S BOOK, “HAUNTED AUSTIN, TEXAS”, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF NOON AND 4:00 PM WILL RECEIVE FREE ADMISSION FOR THEIR GROUP INTO THE MUSEUM OF THE WEIRD!!!
The museum is located inside Lucky Lizard Curios & Gifts, 412 E. 6th Street, Austin TX, 78701. See museumoftheweird.com for more details or call 512-476-5493.
Also, you can hear Scott Johnson talk about his book and his paranormal adventures tomorrow night, as he will be the guest on Chris Walden’s “The Shadow Hour.” The show starts at 10:00 pm Central, and you can listen right here at Museum of the Weird!
