2nd Annual Les Femmes Underground International Film Fest Casts its Spell on San Diego

Published

on

Les Femmes Underground International is a film festival centered on the subversive, unique, and innovative. LeFUFF showcases artists from all walks of life creating work that redefines the manner in which women are represented in mainstream cinema. For the fest’s second year, it moves from Los Angeles to San Diego, and things kick off at 2:00 PM PT on September 2nd in the Digital Gym Media Arts Center and wrap up around 10:00 PM PT.

About LeFUFF 2017:
We invite you to join us as we premiere our Second Annual Festival at the Digital Gym Cinema in San Diego, where we will be collaborating with local film festivals, such as the San Diego Latino Film Festival and Horrible Imaginings. Les Femmes Underground International Film Festival (LeFUFF) is the ONLY traveling festival that showcases exclusively feminist experimental art and narrative work.

Let us lead you into the underground world of feminist inter-sectional art, music, and celluloid fantasies. LeFUFF invites you to take a cinematic adventure that destroys the meaning of mundane with its unique programming. Les Femmes Underground International features films from over 30 different countries ranging in genres from Documentary, Experimental, Narrative, Horror, Female Sexuality, and our own concoction… Psychotropic.

This particular programming will merge women using occult ideology and notions of the word “witch” as a way to indoctrinate equality, independence, and empowerment.

Spellbinding is guaranteed!

The horror shorts block was judged by Christine Schindel, a Horrible Imaginings programmer, and here’s the schedule. If you plan to head out to the Digital Gym (2921 El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego), be sure to RSVP on the Facebook Event Page after getting tickets here.

Thelma Is Fantastic and Now You Can Watch the Opening Scene

Published

on

One of this year’s most beautiful and subdued horror films is Joachim Trier’s Thelma (review), which opens in Los Angeles tonight. To give you a bit of what the film is like, The Orchard have released the opening scene, which shows a man and his daughter hunting in the bleak Norwegian winter. When they come across a young deer, the true intentions of this trip become apparent…

Having seen Thelma, I can tell you that it’s truly something special. It’s a slow burn, to be certain, but it plays out gorgeously, resulting in a film that has yet to leave my mind.

Related Story: Exclusive Interview with Thelma’s Joachim Trier

Locations and tickets for Thelma can be found here.

Synopsis:
Thelma, a shy young student, has just left her religious family in a small town on the west coast of Norway to study at a university in Oslo. While at the library one day, she experiences a violent, unexpected seizure. Soon after, she finds herself intensely drawn toward Anja, a beautiful young student who reciprocates Thelma’s powerful attraction. As the semester continues, Thelma becomes increasingly overwhelmed by her intense feelings for Anja – feelings she doesn’t dare acknowledge, even to herself – while at the same time experiencing even more extreme seizures. As it becomes clearer that the seizures are a symptom of inexplicable, often dangerous, supernatural abilities, Thelma is confronted with tragic secrets of her past, and the terrifying implications of her powers.
