Kazu Kibuishi’s Amulet Headed to The Big Screen

Another comic to film adaptation is on its way as Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox has acquired Kazu Kibuishi’s bestselling graphic novel series Amulet and will develop it into a potential feature franchise. Temple Hill partners Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce.
Amulet is an ongoing series published in the U.S. by Scholastic. Book One: The Stonekeeper was published in 2008, winning the American Library Association’s award for Best Book for Young Adults. The series has flourished, and Book Seven: Firelight will be released in February 2016. The series has so far sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
The graphic novels follow the story of a young girl named Emily; her younger brother, Navin; and their mother, Karen, as they move to their great-grandfather’s house to start a new life. The house proves to contain a dangerous portal, and after a creature pulls Karen through it, the kids set out to save her in an alternate world inhabited by demons, giant robots, elves, and highly intelligent animals.
Temple Hill VP Petersen Harris brought the property to the company, which has established a YA niche with The Fault in Our Stars, The Maze Runner, and Paper Towns. Sylvie Rabineau of RWSG negotiated the deal for the author, who is also repped by Judy Hansen of Hansen Literary Management and attorney Darren Trattner at Jackoway Tyerman.
