Exclusive First Word, Poster & Images from John Fitzpatrick’s Brentwood Strangler

“It’s a blind date. Keep an open mind…” Today we’ve got a first look at award-winning Skypemare director John Fitzpatrick’s Jordan Ladd-starring short holiday horror film Brentwood Strangler, and it’s a Christmas doozy! Step inside for some Yuletide terror.

Written and directed by Fitzpatrick, who in addition to having helmed the festival darling Skypemare is currently heading up his “Scary Endings” short film series (you can check those out on YouTube), the synopsis for Brentwood Strangler is as follows:

It’s the holiday season in Los Angeles, and women are being strangled to death in the Westwood area. Maggie (actress Jordan Ladd of Death Proof and Cabin Fever fame), a lonely woman, goes on a blind date unbeknownst to her that her date is an active and notorious serial killer, The Brentwood Strangler. Is love in the air? Or is Maggie in for the worst (and last) date of her life?

Said Fitzpatrick of the film, “It’s intended to be an homage to classic thrillers of the past such as Strangers on a Train, Marnie, and Psycho, with a focus on story and character, saluting a genre, and bending it and hopefully leaving the audience wanting more.”

Produced in conjunction with Far From Everything Films’ executive producers Jennifer Van Gessel and Nina Friis, Brentwood Strangler producers include filmmaker Fitzpatrick, Sarah Fitzpatrick, Adam J. Yeend, and Ryan Dillon (the latter two who also star). Rounding out the cast are Maximilian Osinski, Annika Marks, and veteran actor Cameron Daddo.

A trailer for Brentwood Strangler is forthcoming. In the interim, you can stay up-to-date on the film, receive screening updates, and more at the film’s Facebook page.

Puppet Master: Littlest Reich

The upcoming reboot of Full Moon’s classic Puppet Master just premiered at the Overlook Film Festival and is said to “maintain all of the brutally inventive puppet-kills infused with the comedic tendencies that made the original franchise so popular with fans while expanding upon Toulon’s backstory and developing richer dialogue, characters, and narratives.”

Netflix’s STRANGER THINGS 3 Begins Filming!

Published

on

Nice! Looks like the third season of Netflix’s original series Stranger Things begins filming today.

The news dropped over on Collider with producer Shawn Levy telling the site the team just completed the table read which included the season’s first 4 scripts.

It is the same number of scripts as last year,” Levy says. “The rest of them kind of get written as we shoot, as we edit, as we go. I’m once again directing the third and fourth episodes so that I can give the Duffers a breather, and send them back into the writing cave so that they can buff out the rest of the season.”

He continues: “That’s why I took on these episodes in Season One, and now the three of us are just a little too superstitious to mess with what’s worked so far. The prep beyond that, it’s really a similar juggling act where the Duffers, because they always understandably want to direct the kick-off episodes, they have to juggle their limited time between writing and re-writing and prepping as directors, all at the same time.”

How excited are you to know that filming on Stranger Things 3 is underway? Make sure to let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

We’ll let you know when we hear more!

Exclusive: THE GREAT BUDDHA ARRIVAL Adds Kaiju Acting Legend

Published

on

Just over a month ago, we brought you news of the majestic looking The Great Buddha Arrival (Daibutsu Kaikoju), an upcoming Japanese kaiju film that pays homage to the “daimajin” movies of the 60’s. A remake of the 1934 movie of the same name, this iteration will be directed by Hiroto Yokokawa and will star Yoshihiko Ohtsuki, Junichiro Nirasawa and Kazuma Yoneyama.

Today, we can confirm that legendary kaiju actor Akira Takarada has joined the cast! Takarada has appeared in six of the Gojira films, including the original 1954 entry! Fun fact: he played a different character in each of those movies because continuity is for the birds.

The film is raised funds on Kickstarter and plans to release the film in December after it films in August. Sound like a tight production? It most certainly is!

Check out a teaser below and get ready for some Great Buddha city stomping this winter!
