Director of Japanese Reboot Promises Scariest Godzilla Yet

While we’re patiently waiting on a sequel to the American reboot of the Godzilla franchise, you might be pleased to learn that the King of the Monsters will soon be returning to Japan. Toho Company Ltd. is working on a brand new film, and today we have some more information.
Per ABC News, director Shinji Higuchi (Attack on Titan) recently spilled some beans about the first Japanese Godzilla film in 12 years, revealing his desire to make the scariest monster movie of all time. He says he will bring the monster to life through a hybrid of CGI and practical effects.
Higuchi insists his incarnation of Godzilla won’t be the cuddly kaiju his generation grew up on, as the times are different and he wants to make a monster movie fit for modern audiences. He implied that the film will tackle real-world issues, including human accountability for the monster’s existence.
“I’m confident I am among the top 50 lovers of Godzilla in the world. That’s how much I love Godzilla,” Higuchi told the outlet. “Maybe I’m not in the top 10, but definitely in the top 50.”
Filming on this brand spankin’ new Godzilla flick begins next month, much of the film being shot at the legendary Toho Studios. Animation master Hideaki Anno (Evangelion) just finished the script and will help oversee direction.
While we wait for more, dig on the first concept image of Godzilla’s footprint, which indicates that this creature will be even bigger than Legendary’s.
