Ultra-Indie Daily Dose: Grab Some Snack
Hello, you glorious gluttons for all things indie horror! Are you just starving for the newest of the new, the most unknownest of the unknown? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to the Ultra-Indie Daily Dose! In this series, we’re going to pick a new game every day from an indie horror creator you’ve probably never heard of. No million-dollar budgets or factory productions. This is the space for the little guy with not but a developer toolkit and a dream. So if you’re down to roll the dice on something different, then stick around and check it out!
Welcome back for your Daily Dose of indie horror! Today we have a game by developer Food Without Taste, whose library also consists of Licking Deer and Awe of Them. Coincidentally, Food’s game is about food. Grab Some Snack is a fairly rudimentary game, but by some strange magic, is an incredible horror experience.
Grab Some Snack begins with the player parked at a gas station. Filling up, you decide to go into the convenience store and, you guessed it, grab yourself some snack. But, like a rat seeing cheese, when you find yourself in the room with all these beautiful snack, the door locks, and you’re trapped. The only way out is through the mysterious basement.
Spoiler alert. There’s a whole big dungeon under the gas station in Grab Some Snack. It’s your typical blank concrete corridors and fluorescent lights dungeon, but there’s also conveyor belts with body parts. Not only that, there’s also a character that I’m going to call The Meat Man (which I recognize is what most men are made of) who apparently wants to grab you as a snack.
The game is simple but still delightful. I will most certainly be checking out Food’s other games, which you can find here. And to try Grab Some Snack for yourself, download it from itch.io by clicking here.
