So if you’re down to roll the dice on something different, then stick around and check it out!

Welcome back for another Daily Dose of indie horror! Returning with a submission to this year’s Haunted PS1 Summer of Shivers is the developer Warkus. Previously featured for the delightfully thalassophobic title Oceanwork is a Silent Hill-style game of Lovecraftian make: Shadow Over Northmoth.

Shadow Over Northmoth is a game inspired by the Lovecraft story Shadow Over Innsmouth. It’s the timeless eldritch tale of a small New England city that’s formed a dark pact with the creatures of the drink, turning its citizenry into fish folk. You play as a man who’s awakened on the beach near this mysterious town and must find a way to survive the brine monsters within.

The gameplay for Shadow Over Northmoth accurately emulates the PSX survival horror. This feels like playing a nautical Resident Evil. Fixed camera combat with chunky melee weapons and limited ammo makes every encounter an anxious ordeal. And there’s plenty of wooden boxes to smash.
