Railway Carriage, The (Short)
Starring Dean Sills, David Chambers, Geri Preston
Directed by Ross Adgar
In one of the bigger mind-bending films I’ve seen this year (which is actually a fairly short list), The Railway Carriage whips your skull around like it’s been forcefully shoved into a food processor and left on for a couple of hours… funny considering that this quickie only has a runtime of 10 minutes.
Dean Sills plays a man whose life in in a constant revolving door, and if it wasn’t for that damned train car he’s been stuck on for an eternity, I’m sure all would be just peachy. Regardless, his conscience is acting like a prison and unwilling to let him escape what looks like an all-too-familiar tragedy. With never-ending visions of two children marching towards him and a staccato beacon of a radio announcement that describes a heinous crime, our leading man is tiptoeing the line between sanity and fringe-dementia, and I’ve got to tell you, it is pretty creepy to watch.
With a barrage of hazy visuals, haunting musical accompaniment, and all-around “WTF?” moments, this train ride is one I’d gladly buy a round trip ticket for – recommended for certain.
