SDCC 08: More Kombat Vs. DC Universe Details!
Creepy just called in from Comic Con with a ton of details about the upcoming Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe video game, which as we told you yesterday will not be bloodless as we had originally feared!
First off, there are six new characters in this game: Shazam, Liu Kang, The Joker (hell yes!), Kitanna and The Green Lantern. None of them or any other players will be brandishing any weapons, but as you know, they don’t really need ‘em.
Each character will have his or her own fighting style, which will unfortunately be unchangeable. No learning new styles as you progress; what you got is what you keep for the whole game. As for the patented finishing moves, the DC heroes will have “Brutalities”, one of which Nomad got to see yesterday, while all the villains and Mortal Kombat characters will have “Fatalities”. It wouldn’t be the same without them!
Perhaps the coolest news is that Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe will actually have two separate storylines, real, true storylines, depending on if you pick an MK combatant or a DC icon. The story was written by Jimmy Palmiotti, who has worked on comics like Jonah Hex, Friday the 13th, The Hills Have Eyes: The Beginning and a lot more. The plot will unfold episodically, which seems to really be the new thing to do in gaming, with each character having its own chapter of the overall arc.
Sounds like it’s going to be a lot more than just punching, kicking, and impaling for this one. Oh, and speaking of which, the game also has two brand-new features: “Up Close Kombat”, where the camera zooms in while you’re fighting and you can watch the damage you inflict show up on your opponent, and “Free Fall Kombat”, where you can continue fighting after taking a fall from a great height. Nice!
All right, I admit I’m excited for this now. Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe will be hitting Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on December 15th!
