First Details on Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 SE DVD!
Recently Uncle Creepy got to sit down for an extended chat with Michael Felsher, the man behind Red Shirt Pictures. If neither name is familiar to you, pop in your 20th Anniversary DVD of Hellraiser or your Monster Squad disc; pretty much all the kickass features on those DVDs were done by Mike and Red Shirt.
In the course of the interview, Felsher dished on some new DVDs he’s working on, the most exciting of which being a definitive version of Hellbound: Hellraiser 2! ”I’m doing interviews with the Cenobites,” Felsher told us, ”the other Cenobites, cause Doug has his own piece, and we’re hoping to get an interview with one actress who has never been interviewed about the film to date. I won’t say whom, but our fingers are crossed…” Of course a brand-new transfer of the film is in the cards as well as other features yet to be named.
No release date is in place yet, but Anchor Bay has plans to put it out later this year … maybe … ”They may wait to see what’s going on with the Hellraiser remake first,” Mike commented.
Felsher also chatted up the upcoming SE of Pumpkinhead, which is still without a release date. ” The Pumpkinhead DVD is going to be great,” he enthused. ”We have a widescreen transfer, we’re doing a commentary with some of the effects guys and the screenwriter, and we have a lot of featurettes that go into the making of the film.”
One of those makeup effects personalities was Tom Woodruff, who provided Mike and Red Shirt with something they normally would have never known existed. ”Tom Woodruff, who I had worked with on the Monster Squad DVD, said ‘Oh, I have an old VHS of some behind-the-scenes stuff I shot, I’ll dub it to DV for you.’ And I was like, ‘Okay!’ This is one of the top guys in the field, and he’s making time to do this for the DVD. It’s amazing how personal this project was for so many people.”
As you may know, our own Andrew Kasch and Buz Wallick shot a lot of the interviews you will see on the DVD for Felsher, marking the beginning of what we hope is a long relationship the duo have with the Red Shirt honcho.
Finally, Mike dropped a bit of a grindhouse lovers bomb on us, announcing that he’s working on an upcoming special edition of Danny (Friday the 13th: A New Beginning) Steinmann’s Savage Streets. ”I’m a huge Danny Stienmann fan, so when I heard BCI was doing it, I jumped on it,” Mike explained. ”We managed to get Linda Blair, who’s actually really proud of that movie cause she kicks a lot of ass in it. We also got Linnea Quigley, who I asked if she wanted to participate when I met her at a con. I was really impressed that she did because the rape scene she’s in in Savage Streets is just really brutal so I didn’t know how comfortable she’d be talking about it, but she was very cool and open about it.
Most exciting for me, though, is that I just got back from doing a commentary with Danny Stienmann. We tracked him down, and he was more than happy to chat about this sleazy horror entry. It’s a very ribald, very un-PC commentary, and I think fans are going to dig it.”
Keep your eyes and ears open for the full interview to be posted later today, in which Mike and Creepy talk about a everything the man has done to present day, and how lucky he feels just being where he is. It’s a really great interview so be sure to give it your ears!
We’ll have more on the Pumpkinhead, Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 and Savage Streets DVDs soon enough!
