Shia LaBeouf signs for Dark FieldsBased on the 2003 debut novel by Alan Glynn, Dark Fields is a new thriller coming our way from The Illusionist helmer Neil Burger. Variety reports this morning that Shia LaBeouf has signed on to play the main character, a loser named Eddie who takes an experimental drug called MDT-48, which immediately causes him to be ten times smarter and more attractive.

Issues arise when the side effects kick in, mainly “trip-switching”, a phenomenon in which times moves in stop-motion, as well as piercing headaches and intense bouts of rage. Pretty soon he’s the number one suspect in a high-profile murder and is on the run for his life.

I’ve gotta say I’ve never been disappointed with LaBeouf in anything I’ve seen, dating back to Constantine, and it’ll be nice to see him work within what sounds like a meaty role.
