Monahan Set to Thrill Us
What do a drug dealer, a serial killer, and Playboy magazine have in common? Oscar-winning screenwriter William (The Departed) Monahan, that’s what!
According to Variety, Monahan has been tapped to adapt an article that will appear in Playboy later this year into a screenplay for Paramount. Still title-less, the true story follows Jim Keene, son of a Police Chief and “a drug dealer who trades a prison sentence to go undercover at a maximum security hospital for the criminally insane, where he tries to get a serial killer to divulge the whereabouts of his victims. Only the prison psychiatrist knows Keene is undercover, plus a visiting ‘girlfriend’ who is actually an FBI agent.”
It may not be a straight horror story, but it does definitely fall within the fringe of our genre and could provide some scares depending on how much they show of the killer’s activities, which reportedly included the murders of some 25 young women. And considering the high quality of Monahan’s work in the past, it’s something we’ll be keeping an eye on as cast and crew announcements are made down the road.
