New Stepfather, Family Chosen
This morning Daily Variety is reporting that Dylan Walsh (“Nip/Tuck”), Sela Ward (The Day After Tomorrow) and Penn Badgley (Drive Thru) have signed on for roles in Screen Gems remake of The Stepfather.
Walsh will fill the shoes of Terry O’Quinn from the original film, while Ward will play the woman he marries and Badgley the suspicious teenage son who begins to suspect his new stepdad isn’t the nice guy he pretends to be, but rather a murdering psycho who butchered his last family. Screen Gems says they hope to take a more “Hitchockian” approach to the film than original.
Prom Night redux helmer Nelson McCormick is directing this remake, as well, with a script by J.S. Cardone (The Forsaken). Personally I see that as a bad sign, but we’ll have to wait and see. Shooting is expected to start during the first quarter of 2008.
