Skipp Talks Jake’s Wake

One of my favorite books of the year, Long Last Call (review) is, as you already know, headed for the big screen. Fangoria got a chance to chat with the author/future director John Skipp about the adaptation, as well as another project he’s been working on forever now called Jake’s Wake. The latter sounds pretty damn cool in and of itself.

“The story, in a bloody nutshell, is this: There’s this handsome, corrupt, charismatic small-town cable-access televangelist named Jake,” Skipp told the mag, “After he gets his dumb ass killed by banging the wrong guy’s girlfriend, the three main women in his life—his once-wealthy widow, his naive Bible-girl assistant and his favorite prostitute—get together on the night of his funeral, to sort out the horrible puzzle that is Jake. Unfortunately for them, he comes back from the dead and believes he is, in fact, the Second Coming. All kinds of grim, gory, mind-bending pandemonium are unleashed on both these women and the terrified world at large!”

Pretty fucking cool, no? The same can be said for most of Skipp’s work, which he discusses in length with Fango. He’s got a shtiload of horror scripts ready to film, all of which will follow Long Last Call and Jake’s Wake, the book of which will be out from Leisure next year.

Check out the full interview on Fango and keep it here for more info on all of Skipp’s upcoming projects!
