Three Projects on the Way from Staci Layne Wilson: Self-Portraits and Keepsakes Short Films/Novellas and Dark Lullaby Audio Book“Allow me to introduce you to three passionate, obsessed artists – each haunted by their own creations…” So begins Self-Portraits, a new short film by Staci Layne Wilson.

You may have noticed Staci’s name on the site recently as she’s joined us to handle reviews, interviews, set visits, and more; but she’s also an accomplished author and filmmaker in her own right. And a lot of her work involves the number “3.”

For instance, Self-Portraits examines a moment in the lives of three brilliant, troubled artists – Leonor (Diane Ayala Goldner), Egon (Andrew McGee), and Louis (James R. Petix) – and explores the fever dreams they endure in alternate realities. The film will debut in late December, and a companion novella will be released in February 2014.

Also being released in its entirely in late December, and in novella form as well, is Keepsakes – another triptych of terrifying tales. This one is about people who are not just hoarders… they are literally mad for collecting. First is “The Doll Collector” (Alisa Burket), then “The Tooth Collector” (Mike Mendez), and finally “The Jewelry Collector” (Brooke Lewis). You’ll never look at treasure-hunting the same way.

Thirdly (see what we mean about the “3” thing?), another upcoming project on Staci’s (and our) plate is “Dread Central Presents: Dark Lullaby, the Audio Book,” read by popular scream queen Tiffany Shepis. We don’t have a firm release date yet but are aiming for spring 2014.

Staci spent 2013 directing music videos and several episodes of “Ms. Vampy’s Bites” and “Ms. Vampy’s Love Bites” (created by and starring Brooke Lewis), and she is excited about returning to expressionistic, artistic filmmaking. Previously she helmed The Key to Annabel Lee and The Night Plays Tricks.

Look for Self-Portraits and Keepsakes to debut in December at a super-secret Christmas film festival in Los Angeles and online thereafter, and we’ll have more news on the Dark Lullaby (review here) audio book soon.

In the meantime, here’s a tiny taste of both films.
