Horror Director Mike Flanagan Calls This Unmissable Indie Chiller “Amazing”

Mike Flanagan is a master of not just horror, but horror that will make you sob like a baby. He strikes an incredible balance between emotionally destroying you and making you scream. And game recognizes game, as Flanagan recently shouted out the chilling 2015 film They Look Like People.

They Look Like People is the feature film debut of director Perry Blackshear, whose work echoes both the style of Mike Flanagan and directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Blackshear is able to deftly create scares and deeply emotional storytelling that reduces you to a puddle. His other films include The Siren and, most recently, When I Consume You.

In They Look Like People, “Suspecting that people around him are turning into evil creatures, a troubled man questions whether to protect his only friend from an impending war, or from himself.”

MacLeod Andrews, Evan Dumouchel, and Margaret Ying Drake star in the film.

They Look Like People was actually how Flanagan discovered Andrews and Dumouchel, who had roles in Doctor Sleep. He took to Twitter to respond to a fan, sharing that he’s been following all of their work since They Look Like People‘s release.
