Following up his 2019 film Bait, writer and director Mark Jenkin is back to the horror genre with his latest film Enys Men. This time, Jenkin is tackling the much-loved subgenre of folk horror in grainy 16mm, reminiscent of the films that marked the beginning of the flower-filled movement.

Read the full synopsis below:

A wildlife volunteer on an uninhabited island off the British coast descends into a terrifying madness that challenges her grip on reality and pushes her into a living nightmare.

The use of grainy 16mm film makes this feel like a version of The Blair Witch Project. Enys Men is by no means a found footage film, but the aesthetics feel oh-so-familiar.

In his five-star review out of the 2022 London Film Festival, Dread Central’s Sean McGeady said:

A weird ode to Wyrd Cornwall, this is a film as rugged, uncompromising, and unknowable as its setting. A decade into a folk horror revival that shows no sign of abating, Enys Men may be the new yardstick by which we measure the genre.

Mary Woodvine, who previously appeared in Jenkin’s Bait, stars in Enys Men.
