Finally some of the demons mentioned in the title of Starz’s “Da Vinci’s Demons” rear their ugly heads in this Friday’s Episode 1.03, “The Prisoner,” and we have a preview of what’s coming.
While the da Vinci depicted in the history books was renowned for his works of art and inventions that included the calculator, army tank, diving suit, solar power, and many more, “Da Vinci’s Demon’s” depicts a 25-year-old da Vinci (portrayed by Tom Riley) on the cusp of greatness, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman. In the series he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time, tortured by his unsurpassed intellect. He begins to not only see the future, but invent it.
The series also stars Laura Haddock, who plays Lucrezia Donati, a celebrated beauty with obscure motives; Elliot Cowan, who plays the shrewd de facto ruler of Florence, Lorenzo Medici; Lara Pulver, who plays his wife, Clarice Orsini; and Blake Ritson as Pope Sixtus’ ruthless bastard son, Count Riario. David S. Goyer served as showrunner.
“Da Vinci’s Demons” airs Friday nights at 9pm ET/PT on Starz.
